Chumphon night market

We had a few days in Chumphon before our visa run so naturally visited the night market…

This was the first time we’d seen such a selection of insects and grubs on sale. People bought them by the bag full and ate them like sweets. We chose to pass on that one.

Knives, machetes and small swords. No cover, plastic packaging or age restrictions for buying here…

Balancing bottles. This kid’s dad managed to balance bottles end on end. We thought they might be weighted or fixed in some way until a passer by gave him a bottle to add. Pretty impressive.

The roadside pet shop wasn’t great to see. Puppies, mice, birds and rabbits were stuffed into tiny cages. Some had their fur dyed and in the rabbits case, were dressed up.

A whole street was given over to plants. Behind a lot of these stalls you could see the owners beds, we think some of them lived there permanently.
